# Update User

Changes the authenticated user's name, email address, or both. Send at least one of them. Returns the user as [Get Current User](/api-reference/users/get-current-user) does.

A new email address is unverified until the user follows the link in the verification mail sent to it, so the response has `email_verified` set to `false`. The address must not belong to another account, in any casing. Limited to 6 requests per minute.

**name** `string`

The user's full name. Maximum 255 characters. Required without `email`.

**email** `string`

The new email address. Must be a valid email. Maximum 255 characters. Required without `name`.

**current\_password** `string`

The user's current password. Required when `email` changes the address. An account without a password (`has_password: false` on the user) changes its address in the web portal.

## Errors

A `422` names the field that failed: `email` when the address is invalid or already in use, `current_password` when it is missing or wrong.
