Zaptec chargers are added through Zaptec’s cloud. Your user signs in with the Zaptec account that owns the charger, picks it, and Plugchoice switches the charger’s installation over to Plugchoice. Nothing runs on the phone, so this works the same in your app and in a browser.

Adding a charger

1

Sign in to Zaptec

Your user picks Zaptec and Sign in to Zaptec, then enters the email and password they use in the Zaptec app. Plugchoice passes them to Zaptec to sign in, and doesn’t keep the password.
2

Pick the charger

Link lists the chargers on the account, with whether each is online and whether it’s already connected to Plugchoice or to another operator. Your user picks one and taps Connect.
3

Plugchoice switches the installation

Plugchoice adds the chargers to the site, collects their charging history, and switches the installation to Plugchoice in Zaptec. The chargers usually come online within a minute.
What to know:
  • The whole installation comes along. Zaptec switches every charger in an installation at once, so Link adds all of them to the site. The link session then lists each of them in its devices.
  • Only an owner or maintainer of the installation in Zaptec can connect it. Link shows the chargers your user may not change, but they can’t pick them.
  • The charger must be online in Zaptec. Zaptec only switches a charger it can reach.
  • The current operator stays connected. When the installation used another OCPP backoffice, Plugchoice keeps it connected alongside, so what your user has today keeps working.
  • A charge card for plug-in charging. When the installation had no backoffice before, Plugchoice adds a card to the site, and sessions that start when a car plugs in are logged under it.
  • An installation that already points at Plugchoice isn’t switched again; its chargers are just added.

When something goes wrong

Link shows these to your user and lets them try again or sign in again. You don’t need to handle them. If signing in to Zaptec isn’t possible, your user can choose By hand and set the charger up as another OCPP charger.
